Interlibrary Loan Request

If you live in Humboldt, Dakota City or rural Humboldt County and have a current HPL library card, we may be able to borrow materials for you from another Iowa library.  When possible, an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) helps libraries save money and be more efficient!

If you are in a hurry, this request can usually be acted upon sooner than a Materials Request, but it can still take up to 3 weeks to receive the materials via a courier.  An ILL also makes more sense for older materials, niche subjects, academic subjects, limited-interest materials, etc.  Please note that items published or released within the last year may not be requested.  Newer materials will be considered for purchase by HPL for our collection.

After you make your request, we will reply to you as quickly as possible.  We will let you know the results of our ILL search, and we will also let you know when it arrives.  ILL materials can only be kept for a limited period of time and renewals may not be possible.

Please note that there will be a processing fee of $3.50 if you do not pick up your materials after arriving at the HPL, and we have to return them.

Problems or questions?  We’re here for you at 332-1925.
